The Keane Foundation

The Richard M. Keane Foundation was established in 2001, shortly after the (9/11 terrorist attacks on The World Trade Center. Richard M. Keane and two other young men from Wethersfield all died that day. A fourth family who lost their father, Fred Kuo, on that day now lives in Wethersfield. The Sports Center and the Programs of the Keane Foundation are a wonderful way to remember lives lost.
The 9/11 Memorial Sports was planned and constructed by the Richard M. Keane Foundation and opened on September 11, 2008. It has become a focal point in the Town of Wethersfield for sports, fitness, meetings, family gatherings, birthday parties, and much more. The exterior piece of steel from the original World Trade Center was a gift from the NY/NJ Port Authority and the city of New York and is a spectacular reminder of that tragic day.
The Mission of the Richard M. Keane Foundation is to provide a safe and fun environment where youth come together to participate in athletic, academic, and social programs with the support and guidance of caring adults.
Keane Kids Afterschool Enrichment Programs are held at 5 Elementary Schools. Students can choose from a variety of enrichment activities to learn a new skill or advance their knowledge of a particular area, such as Chess, Cooking, Computer Coding, Art, Robotics, Science/Stem, Music, Stage performances, and more.
The Keane Foundation’s Hands-on Learning Program for Science is held annually in each Elementary School classroom. Connected to the Science curriculum for each grade, children are immersed in the study of grade-level science. It is truly learning through fun!
Now in existence for 24 years, we enjoy widespread support from Wethersfield residents, community leaders, and area businesses. The Keane Foundation has been recognized and honored by the Wethersfield Town Council, the Wethersfield Board of Education, the Wethersfield Chamber of Commerce, and local civic and business groups for its community leadership in providing quality programming for children and their families.
The Richard M. Keane Foundation’s vision is to continue to provide the Greater Wethersfield community with a safe and nurturing environment for athletics, academics, and enrichment programs through public/private collaboration.
