The Keane Foundation has worked with the Wethersfield Park and Recreation Department, the Wethersfield Elementary Schools and the Central Connecticut Health District to a create a Running Club in each of the five elementary schools.
The students met one day a week after school for six weeks leading up to the Keane Foundation 5K in June.
The Running Club resumes in September for six weeks leading up to the Mikey’s Place 5K on October 16th. (The program begins the first week of school) The program has a very low cost per student of $10 for 6 weeks. The Keane Foundation will donate tee-shirts (one per year) to all participants, as well as a team trophy for the school with the highest percentage attendance at the 5K, and a school bannar for the school with the largest Running Club.
Along with introducing a form of exercise to help maintain a lifelong healthy life style, goals of the club include the physical training and goal setting mentality essential to runners to complete a 5K (3.1 miles) Road Race.
In addition,like enhancing confidence, respecting others and fueling their bodies through proper nutrition will be addressed.
