Saturday Open Gym Basketball - Drop In!
The 9/11 Memorial Sports Center will be open for FREE pick-up games of Basketball on Saturdays for boys and girls from November 1, 2014 - April 18, 2015. The open gym days will be for “Pick-up” games of basketball only, not for team practice.
Boys and girls are invited to play, however, supervisors will determine the division of play. Families are encouraged to drop in and enjoy a game together as well.
No basketball November 22nd or 28th, December 27, 2014. No basketball January 3, February 14, March 28 or April 4. This schedule is subject to change. Cancellations will be posted on the Northeast door when possible.
The program is Free, however, all participants must have a signed permission slip when dropped off, children without the permission slip will not be permitted to play. All children must be picked up at the time that their age group finishes play. Registration is preferred, but not required, No Fee. Keane Foundation Kid’s Vacation Day Program
December 31, 2014
Back by popular demand, please join us on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 for a fun filled day at the 9/11 Memorial Center (at the Pitkin Community Center). Children can visit with old friends and make new friends during the vacation.
One of the most popular events in the past for the Keane Foundation has been the Vacation Kids Days, with well over 150 kids signed up for one day of school vacations. Each day starts with toddler’s organized games under the supervision of trained teachers, like tunnel games or parachute games. 4-7 Year olds move on to Freeze Tag, Kick Ball and Basketball, and 8 and older kids got to use the computer room, Dodge Ball, Street Hockey and of course Basketball. These programs will be back again this year on December 31, 2014 (Christmas Vacation) and April 1, 2015 (Spring Vacation). Watch for flyers through the schools and in the Parks and Recreation brochures.

Drop your child off for some free play and organized games like Kick Ball, Basketball, Freeze Tag and other fun games!
1:00pm. - 3:00 pm. : 8 to 12 year olds. (Max 60)
Drop your child off for Basketball, Dodge Ball, try Boxing and other games in the gym. Also, the Computer Room will be open for Computer fun.

Light Up Your Neighborhood With Luminaria
On Christmas Eve!
Be a part of the joy in a 40 year old Wethersfield tradition by displaying special votive candles in sand-lined bags along your property this Christmas Eve.
Let’s light up Wethersfield!
Luminaries are most beautiful when neighborhoods display them. It is recommended the Luminaries be displayed at the end of your yard 6-10 feet apart along the road. Light your Luminaria at dusk on Christmas Eve, they will shine until Christmas morning!
Each Luminaria kit costs $1.50, and includes the 14-hour candle, special bag and instructions.
Kits are available at Wethersfield Travel, 219 Main Street, Old Wethersfield now through noon on December 24th for use on Christmas Eve. What’s happening at the After School Program?
Come join the fun after school on Mondays and Tuesdays starting October 26th, running until December 16th. The Fall program, supported by the Keane Foundation and the Parks and Recreation Department, always leave kids and parents wanting more!
This past year children participated in Campardy (like Jeopardy, including stage and buzzers to signal that they have the answer); CT Science Center programs; and Zumba exercise classes. Even more interesting enrichment activities are planned for this year!
Children in grades 3-6 from all 5 Elementary Schools in Wethersfield can register to be transported by bus to the 9/11 Memorial Sports Center After School Program. Those who enroll in the Keane On Kids Fall After School Program, can start their homework, have a snack and spend hours of fun in the Gym, Fitness Center and on Computers in the Classroom.
Transportation is provided from public elementary schools to the program! The supervised program will include Homework Help, Computer Games and SmartBoard play and instruction, as well as Sports, Fitness Programs and Open Gym. This is an opportunity for kids to try new things, and to just have fun after school! Staff includes teachers as well as Child and Recreation Professionals. The program will be held in the 9/11 Memorial Sports Center at the William J. Pitkin Community Center, 30 Greenfield Street, from 3:00-5:30 pm on Mondays and Tuesdays from October 26th through December 16th. Children may sign up for one day or for both days.
