FALL-Winter 2013 COMMUNITY EVENTS
Light Up Your Neighborhood With Luminaria
On Christmas Eve!
Be a part of the joy in a 39 year old Wethersfield tradition by displaying special votive candles in sand-lined bags along your property this Christmas Eve.
Let’s light up Wethersfield!
Luminaries are most beautiful when neighborhoods display them. It is recommended the Luminaries be displayed at the end of your yard 6-10 feet apart along the road. Light your Luminaria at dusk on Christmas Eve, they will shine until Christmas morning!
Each Luminaria kit costs $1.50, and includes the 14-hour candle, special bag and instructions.
Kits are available at Wethersfield Travel, 219 Main Street, Old Wethersfield now through noon on December 24th for use on Christmas Eve. To order your kits call 860-257-3775 prior to pickup, and they will be ready. Become a Captain, and order for your neighborhood! All proceeds go to the Keane Foundation. Click here to download flyer.
What’s happening at the After School Program?
Come join the fun after school on Mondays and Tuesdays starting October 28th, running until December 17. The 6 week Fall program, supported by the Keane Foundation and the Parks and Recreation Department, always leave kids and parents wanting more!
This past year children participated in Campardy (like Jeopardy, including stage and buzzers to signal that they have the answer); CT Science Center programs; and Zumba exercise classes. Even more interesting enrichment activities are planned for this year!
Children in grades 3-6 from all 5 Elementary Schools in Wethersfield can register to be transported by bus to the 9/11 Memorial Sports Center After School Program. Those who enroll in the Keane Foundation 6 week Fall program, can start their homework, have a snack and spend hours of fun in the Gym, Fitness Center and on Computers in the Classroom.
Transportation is provided from public elementary schools to the program! The supervised program will include Homework Help, Computer Games and SmartBoard play and instruction, as well as Sports, Fitness Programs and Open Gym. This is an opportunity for kids to try new things, and to just have fun after school! Staff includes teachers as well as Child and Recreation Professionals. The program will be held in the 9/11 Memorial Sports Center at the William J. Pitkin Community Center, 30 Greenfield Street, from 3:00-5:30 pm on Mondays and Tuesdays from October 28nd through December 17th. (No program on November 5th and 11th). Children may sign up for one day or for both days. The fee is $35/Residents, $45/Non-Residents.
